Schindler’s List is a 1993 American epic historical period drama film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and scripted by Steven Zaillian. It is based on the novel Schindler’s Ark by Australian novelist Thomas Keneally, an avowed Catholic.
The film is based on the life of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman and member of the Nazi Party who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.
The movie stars Liam Neeson as Schindler, Ralph Fiennes as SS officer Amon Göth, and Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern, Schindler’s Jewish accountant.
The movie plot centers on Schindler’s efforts to save his workers from being transported to concentration camps by bribing and paying off Nazis.
He used the profits made from his factory – mainly money being paid to him for renting out Jewish labor – to bribe Nazi & SS officials and save the Jews living inside his facilities. He balanced his relationship between the Nazis and his mission to save the people throughout the film.
