Paramahansa Yogananda was born with the name Mukunda Lal Ghosh on January 5, 1893, in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was an Indian Hindu monk, the disciple of Sri Yukteswar Giri, and the guru of many.
Paramahansa Yogananda studied at Serampore College and during that time he became a regular visitor to the ‘Yukteshwar Ashram.’ He became a monastic Swami and founded the Yogananda Satsang Society of India in 1917.
In 1920, Yogananda moved to the United States and founded the Self-Realization Fellowship which is a worldwide organization dedicated to introducing people to meditation and Kriya Yoga and teaching how to find God through meditation and other spiritual practices.
