Henry Ford was an American industrialist, a business magnate, the inventor of the Ford Model T car, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, and the sponsor of the development of the assembly line technique of mass production. Ford did more than anyone else to make the car affordable and available to the average person.
Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in Wayne County, Michigan. After attending school in Detroit, Ford was never interested in his family farming business so he worked as an apprentice machinist in Detroit, first with James F. Flower & Bros., and later with the Detroit Dry Dock Co. in 1879.
Later in 1882, when ford was returned to work on his family farm, he was hired by the Westinghouse Electric Company to service their steam engines. Moving to his next job in 1891 as an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company of Detroit and getting his promotion to Chief Engineer in 1893, Ford now had enough money to experiment with gasoline engines.
On August 5, 1899, he founded the Detroit Automobile Company, which failed in January 1901. In 1903, Ford established again the Ford Motor Company which manufactured automobiles on a large scale and had a huge impact on the industry.
